Harmonia Concert Series Opens Its 2026–27 Season with Duo FAE!

Join us on Sunday, October 25 at 3:00 PM for the first of four concerts in our new season!

Our opening program, Music Redacted, explores artistic resilience in the face of political repression through the music of three important 20th-century composers: Grażyna Bacewicz, a Polish composer who wrote in secret under Nazi occupation and later navigated communist censorship; Alfred Schnittke, a Soviet composer whose provocative mixing of musical styles challenged the official aesthetic; and Aaron Copland, one of America’s most celebrated composers, who found himself interrogated by Senator Joseph McCarthy’s committee.

Music Redacted tells three compelling stories of creativity, courage, and resistance.

For more than a decade, Duo FAE, featuring violinist Charlene Kluegel and pianist Katherine Petersen, has captivated audiences across North America and Europe. Praised for their “singular verve and expressive power” by New York Classical Review, the duo released their acclaimed album Dissidents of the Gilded Age on Albany Records in 2025, celebrating its release with a sold-out performance at Vienna’s Musikverein.

The duo takes its name from the motto shared by Johannes Brahms and violinist Joseph Joachim: Frei Aber Einsam (“Free but Alone”).

We are delighted to welcome these remarkable artists to Harmonia for what promises to be a fascinating and memorable opening concert!
