About our name...
"Frei Aber Einsam" (free but lonely) was the motto of the famous virtuoso violinist Joseph Joachim and the name of a collaborative composition completed in 1853 by Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Robert Dietrich.The three composers dedicated this work to Joseph Joachim and adopted his motto for the title.
Duo FAE was founded in 2012 by violinist Charlene Kluegel and pianist Katherine Petersen and since then has performed in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
In May 2013 the duo completed a residency at Mcgill University where they worked with members of McGill's faculty, completed preliminary work on CD recordings,and performed a recital in Pollack Hall. Subsequently, the duo was invited to participate in the Maine Chamber Music Seminar in Sidney, Maine and to participate in a residency at Hill and Hollow Music in Saranac, NY. In addition, the duo appeared on L'Oasis Musicale concert series at Christ Church Cathedral in Montreal in August of 2013 and was subsequently invited to perform on the annual "Journees de la Culture" series which celebrates all the arts and culture that Quebec. This past summer, the duo performed extensively at Bowdoin International Music Festival and was invited to perform at Spectrum in New York City.
